Marine resources and environment program is specially set up by Yangzhou University in response to the call of national and provincial governments since 2011. Program aims on training students to be university graduates with a good ideological and ethical standard, a high level of humanistic literacy, a solid basic theory of marine science, and a systematic grasp of basic knowledge and basic skills on marine biological resources, marine aquatic resources, marine microorganisms and their active substances resources, and marine beach resources. The university graduates from this program will have the basic knowledge and professional skills in the protection, remediation and pollution prevention for marine environments. They can be employed for teaching or researching position in universities or scientific research institutions, development and management related work in scientific research institutions, for administrative or RD departments in enterprises or governments. The Program aims to training the practical personnel in the field of marine resources utilization as well as marine environmental protection with international perspectives, environmental awareness.

Faculties in this program are all those with doctoral degrees from well-known domestic and overseas universities, and nearly 70% of them have the overseas study or research experience of more than one year. In recent years, faculties have presided over eight NSFC projects and nearly 20 provincial and ministerial projects, published more than 70 academic papers including more than 30 articles indexed by SCI, and applied for more than 10 national patents. Professor Hideo Okamura, a well-known marine environmentalist in Kobe University of Japan, Professor Li Huang, former director of the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Pei-Yuan Qian of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology are also employed as part-time professors.

The Program has the professional teaching and scientific research platform with very high qualities, including facilities in Institute of Marine Science and Technology, Marine Environmental Protection and Resource Development Laboratory, Laboratory of Marine biological and Beach Resources Development and Marine Environmental Protection. The advanced experimental training equipment is worth more 12 million RMB, and all of them are available for students in this program. The program has signed cooperative agreements with more than ten well-known enterprises on the practice teaching, and has been qualified with a provincial graduate enterprise workstation in Jiangsu Province.

The program attaches importance to international exchanges and cooperation to foster students' international perspectives. Faculty has frequent academic exchanges and scientific research cooperation with high-level experts and eminent scholars from abroad. The international exchanges and cooperation with The University of Science and Technology of Hong Kong, Kobe University of Japan, Nagasaki University of Japan, University of California at Riverside, University of California at Santa Cruz, National Institutes of Health, and University of Alberta in Canada, and many other internationally renowned universities have established. The program has realized the sharing of personnel, information and resources with these Universities. The exchange agreement has been signed with well-known overseas universities to jointly train senior undergraduates and to recommend them for overseas postgraduate studies. The International Exchange Program for Undergraduates to Nagasaki University was sponsored by the International Exchange Program for Outstanding Undergraduates of the National Student Fund Committee in 2018.

Since its establishment, the program has presided over dozens of national, provincial and school-level scientific and technological innovation projects for undergraduates, published more than ten articles in important academic journals at domestic and abroad, and more than one third of the students have won various scholarships.

Over the past four years, about 12% of graduates have enrolled overseas for pursuing graduated degree, the total enrollment rate for pursuing graduated degree at both domestic and abroad has exceeded 50%, and the employment rate of graduates has been 100%.
